8. OpenClaw ClawHub Introduction (skill Installation)

ClawHub

ClawHub is OpenClaw's public Skills registry. It is a free service: all Skills are public, open, and anyone can view, share, and reuse them. A Skill is a folder containing an SKILL.md file (and auxiliary text files). You can browse Skills in the web application, or use the CLI to search, install, update, and publish Skills. Website: clawhub.com

ClawHub Website Homepage

Position in OpenClaw

By default, the CLI installs Skills to ./skills under the current working directory. If an OpenClaw workspace has been configured, clawhub falls back to that workspace unless overridden by --workdir (or CLAWHUB_WORKDIR). OpenClaw loads workspace Skills from <workspace>/skills, which take effect in the next session. If you are already using ~/.openclaw/skills or built-in Skills, workspace Skills have higher priority. For more details on Skills loading, sharing, and permission control, please refer to Skills.

Skills Directory Structure

Target Audience (Beginner Friendly)

If you want to add new features to your OpenClaw agent, ClawHub is the simplest way to find and install Skills. You don't need to understand how the backend works. You can:

  • Search Skills using natural language.
  • Install Skills to your workspace.
  • Update Skills with one command later.
  • Back up your own Skills by publishing them.

Install CLI

Original ClawHub CLI (International Users)

Choose one:

npm i -g clawhub
pnpm add -g clawhub

Install ClawHub CLI

Log In to ClawHub Account

Why Log In

Although ClawHub allows non-logged-in users to search and install Skills, logging in has important benefits:

  • ✅ Avoid Rate Limiting: Non-logged-in users may encounter download rate limits
  • ✅ Access Full Features: Some advanced features require login
  • ✅ Publish Skills: Only logged-in users can publish their own Skills
  • ✅ Favorites and Comments: Can favorite Skills and leave comments
  • ✅ Usage Statistics: View your usage situation

Login Steps

Method 1: Log in via GitHub (Recommended)

This is the simplest and most secure login method.

1.1 Visit ClawHub Official Website

Open in browser: https://clawhub.com

Visit ClawHub Official Website

Click the "Login" button in the upper right corner of the page:

Click Login Button

1.3 Select GitHub Login

On the login page, click "Sign in with GitHub".

1.4 Authorize Access

After successful authorization, you will be automatically redirected back to ClawHub, showing the logged-in status.

Method 2: Log in using Token

If you cannot log in via GitHub, you can use the Token method.

2.1 Log in to Account

First, follow the steps in Method 1 to log in to ClawHub official website via GitHub.

2.2 Go to Settings Page

After logging in, click your avatar in the upper right corner and select "Settings":

Go to Settings Page

2.3 Create API Token

  • Token is only displayed once. Please be sure to copy and save it properly
  • Do not share the Token with others
  • You can delete the Token anytime in the settings page
2.5 Log in in Terminal

Open the terminal and run the following command (replace your Token with the Token you just copied):

xxxxxxxxxx
clawhub login --token your Token

Note: There is a space after --token, then paste your Token.

Common Issues

Issue 1: Login Prompt Token Invalid

Error Message:

xxxxxxxxxx
Error: Invalid token

Possible Causes:

  • Token copy incomplete
  • Token has expired or been deleted
  • Extra spaces or characters during input

Solutions:

  1. Recreate and copy Token
  2. Ensure no extra spaces when copying
  3. Check if Token is complete

Issue 2: GitHub Login Failed

Possible Causes:

  • Network connection issue
  • GitHub account email not verified
  • Browser blocked redirect

Solutions:

  1. Check network connection
  2. Confirm GitHub account has verified email
  3. Try other browsers or incognito mode

Issue 3: Still Rate Limited After Login

Possible Causes:

  • Login not effective
  • Using wrong CLI (clawhub vs skillhub)

Solutions:

  1. Run clawhub whoami to confirm login status
  2. Confirm using correct CLI command
  3. Log in again

Quick Start

Using Original ClawHub

  1. Install CLI (see previous section).

  2. Search for what you need (domestic users may need VPN/proxy):

    xxxxxxxxxx
    clawhub search "find"

    ClawHub Search Results

  3. Install a Skill:

    Syntax: clawhub install <skill-slug>

    xxxxxxxxxx
    clawhub install find
  4. Start a new OpenClaw session to load new Skills.

Common Agent Workflows

Search Skills

xxxxxxxxxx
clawhub search "postgres backups"

Or use SkillHub:

xxxxxxxxxx
skillhub search "postgres backups"

Download New Skills

xxxxxxxxxx

Or use SkillHub:

xxxxxxxxxx
skillhub install my-skill-pack

Update Installed Skills

xxxxxxxxxx
clawhub update --all

Or use SkillHub:

xxxxxxxxxx
skillhub update --all

Back up Your Skills (Publish or Sync)

For a single Skills folder:

xxxxxxxxxx
