11. Virtual Desktop
Virtual Desktop
Note:Virtual desktop and DP monitor desktop cannot be used simultaneously. Enabling virtual desktop will disable the DP display interface.
1. Function Description
The virtual desktop function is primarily used to enable remote VNC login when there is no monitor available (but a wired or wireless network connection is present).
Note: This tutorial requires ensuring that the motherboard is connected to the DP monitor and can perform remote VNC login correctly. Once virtual desktop is enabled, a DP monitor is no longer needed for remote VNC login.
2. Installing the Virtual Desktop Plugin
Note: The factory image already includes the virtual desktop plugin. To avoid file overwriting errors, please skip this step.
Open your system terminal and enter the following command to install:
xxxxxxxxxxsudo apt install xserver-xorg-video-dummy
Back up the original configuration file:
xxxxxxxxxxsudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup_dp
Add a virtual desktop configuration file:
xxxxxxxxxxsudo vim /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup_vnc
Copy the following content to xorg.conf.backup_vnc, save and exit.
xxxxxxxxxxSection "Device"Identifier "DummyDevice"Driver "dummy"VideoRam 256000EndSectionSection "Screen"Identifier "DummyScreen"Device "DummyDevice"Monitor "DummyMonitor"DefaultDepth 24SubSection "Display"Depth 24Modes "1920x1080_60.0"EndSubSectionEndSectionSection "Monitor"Identifier "DummyMonitor"HorizSync 30-70VertRefresh 50-75ModeLine "1920x1080" 148.50 1920 2448 2492 2640 1080 1084 1089 1125 +Hsync +VsyncEndSection
3. Enabling the Virtual Desktop
By default, the desktop is displayed using DisplayPort (DP), and the virtual desktop is off (DP mode).
Open a terminal and enter the following command to enable the virtual desktop and switch to VNC mode.
xxxxxxxxxxsudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup_vnc /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Note: After switching to VNC mode, the DP connection cable will be disabled. You need to revert the configuration to use the DP interface to connect to the monitor normally.
Reboot the system, and you can then use VNC to remotely log in to the desktop.
xxxxxxxxxxsudo reboot
4. Disabling the Virtual Desktop
If you need to connect a DP monitor, open a terminal and enter the following command to switch to DP interface connection mode.
xxxxxxxxxxsudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup_dp /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Reboot the system, and you can then use the DP cable to connect to the monitor.
xxxxxxxxxxsudo reboot
