Multimodal Large Model + Robotic Arm Gripping

Multimodal Large Model + Robotic Arm Gripping

Please ensure that the web control program backend process is not running in the background. To close it, refer to the [Get Started Quickly - 2. Access the Terminal] section in [Disable the Auto-Start Web Control Backend Process]. After closing, please restart DofbotUltra!!!

Before running the feature, you need to close the web control program backend process.

Please use 30x30x30 wooden blocks.

1. Feature Description

After the program runs, enter action instructions for the robotic arm to grip objects through the terminal. Based on the type of object to grip, the large model will start an external program to control the robotic arm to grip the target object.

2. Startup

For the Raspberry Pi version, you need to enter the Docker container and run:

xxxxxxxxxx
ros2 launch largemodel largemodel_control.launch.py text_chat_mode:=True

Then open a second terminal and enter the following command:

xxxxxxxxxx
ros2 run text_chat text_chat

The robotic arm gripping has the following action instructions:

  • Grip by AprilTag ID (USB camera, the AprilTag to be gripped must use the matching wooden block from the kit and be placed on the table): Sort AprilTag 1/2/3/4

  • Grip by AprilTag height [Depth camera only]: Remove AprilTags with height higher than x cm (x indicates height), e.g., Remove AprilTags higher than 5 cm

  • Grip by color block height [Depth camera only]: Remove y-color blocks with height higher than x cm (x indicates height, y indicates color, values: red, green, yellow, blue), e.g., Remove red blocks higher than 5 cm

  • Grip other objects [Depth camera only]: Grip the little yellow duck on the table, grip the blue cuboid on the table

2.1. Grip by AprilTag ID

2.1.1. Startup

Enter the following in the text_chat terminal:

x
Sort machine code 2

image-20251128101518436

Then two terminals will open, starting the machine code recognition program and gripping program respectively. After recognizing machine code 2, the gripping program will control the robotic arm to descend and grip machine code 2, then place it at the set position, and finally return to the machine code recognition posture to prepare for the next gripping. This continues until no more machine code 2 is recognized, then it reports back to the large model and the task ends.

2.1.2. Task Planning

Plan the action function apriltag_sort(2), where the parameter 2 indicates the ID of the AprilTag to grip.

2.2. Grip by AprilTag Height

2.2.1. Startup

Enter the following in the text_chat terminal:

x
Remove machine codes with height higher than 3 cm

image-20251128112316617

Two terminals will open, starting the AprilTag height calculation program and the gripping program respectively. When an AprilTag higher than 3 cm is recognized, the gripping program will control the robotic arm to grip the abnormally high AprilTag, place it at the set location, then return to the AprilTag recognition pose to prepare for the next grip. This continues until no abnormally high AprilTags are recognized, then feedback is sent to the large model and the task ends.

2.2.2. Task Planning

Plan the action function apriltag_remove_higher(30.0), where the parameter 30 indicates the height threshold. AprilTags with height exceeding this value will be removed. The unit is millimeters (mm).

2.3. Grip by Color Block Height

2.3.1. Startup

Enter the following in the text_chat terminal:

x
Remove green blocks with height higher than 3 cm

image-20251128120229050

Two terminals will open, starting the color block height calculation program and the gripping program respectively. When a green block higher than 3 cm is recognized, the gripping program will control the robotic arm to grip that block, place it at the set location, then return to the recognition pose to prepare for the next grip. This continues until no abnormally high green blocks are recognized, then feedback is sent to the large model and the task ends.

2.2.2. Task Planning

Plan the action function color_remove_higher('green',30.0), where 'green' indicates the color block to sort is green. The parameter 30 indicates the height threshold. Blocks with height exceeding this value will be removed. The unit is millimeters (mm).

2.4. Grip Other Objects

2.4.1. Startup

Enter the following in the text_chat terminal:

Grip the red block on the desktop

image-20251128142013254

The program will first take a photo to determine the position of the little yellow duck, then open two terminals to start the KCF tracking and positioning program and the object gripping program respectively. After calculation, the robotic arm will grip the lred block and finally return to the initial pose.

2.4.2. Task Planning
  1. Call seewhat() to check the position of the red block;

  2. Call grasp_obj(x1,y1,x2,y2) gripping function, where x1, y1, x2, y2 represent the top-left and bottom-right coordinates of the red block's outer bounding box.
