1. Initial Boot
The Jetson AGX Thor does not have internal eMMC storage; a solid-state drive (SSD) must be installed. The Jetson AGX Thor comes with a 1TB SSD, but it does not contain an operating system. For first-time use, you must either flash a clean operating system image or flash a bootable SSD and replace it with a factory image.
Clean System Image: Suitable for developers, requiring some development experience and the ability to independently set up the environment! Since the 1TB SSD that comes with the official Jetson AGX Thor does not have an operating system flashed on it, please refer to the "Flashing a Clean Jetson System with SDK" or "Flashing a Clean Jetson System with USB Drive" courses in the "Motherboard Basics" section to flash a clean Jetson system onto the SSD.
Booting the Factory Image: Suitable for beginners; you can experience various examples without setting up your own environment! Because the official Jetson AGX Thor comes with an older bootloader, please refer to the "Burning the Jetson Bootloader with L4T" and "Replacing the SSD" tutorials in the "Motherboard Basics" section. After burning the bootloader, replace the SSD to use the factory image.
1.1 Powering on the Motherboard
The kit includes a Type-C power connector. Both Type-C connectors on the Jetson AGX Thor motherboard can be used for power, but only the one closer to the HDMI port (blue text) can be used for burning the system. Therefore, generally, the Type-C port closer to the QSFP28 connector (red text) is used for power, and the Type-C port closer to the HDMI port (blue text) is used for burning.
The Jetson AGX Thor motherboard will automatically power on by default.

1.2 Mirror Selection
Choose one of the following three options.
1. Clean System Installation (1TB SSD)
- Flash Jetson Clean System: This step can be performed either via the SDK Manager or using a USB drive; simply choose one of these two flashing methods. Refer to the corresponding tutorials: [Chapter 2 - Mainboard Basics: Flashing Jetson Clean System via SDK] and [Chapter 2 - Mainboard Basics: Flashing Jetson Clean System via USB Drive].
- Install Jetson Component Environment: Refer to the corresponding tutorial: [Chapter 2 - Mainboard Basics: Installing the JetPack Environment].
2. Factory Image System (1TB SSD)
- Flash Jetson Bootloader via L4T: Since the bootloader version on the official mainboard does not match the version included in the factory image, you must first flash the bootloader by following the tutorial: [Chapter 2 - Mainboard Basics: Flashing Jetson Bootloader via L4T].
- Restore Factory Image System: Follow the tutorial [Chapter 2 - Mainboard Basics: Restoring the Factory Image System] to remove the 1TB SSD, flash the factory image onto it, and then reinstall it.
- Expand SSD Storage Capacity: After powering on the device, follow the tutorial [Chapter 2 - Mainboard Basics: Expanding SSD Storage Capacity] to extend the system's usable disk space to cover the entire drive.
3. Factory Image System (2TB SSD)
- Flash Jetson Bootloader via L4T: Since the bootloader version on the official mainboard does not match the version included in the factory image, you must first flash the bootloader by following the tutorial: [Chapter 2 - Mainboard Basics: Flashing Jetson Bootloader via L4T].
- Replace SSD: Follow the tutorial [Chapter 2 - Mainboard Basics: Replacing the SSD] to swap the 1TB SSD with a 2TB SSD that has the factory image pre-flashed.
- Expand SSD Storage Capacity: After powering on the device, follow the tutorial [Chapter 2 - Mainboard Basics: Expanding SSD Storage Capacity] to extend the system's usable disk space to cover the entire drive. ## 2. System Environment

3. Important Notes
- Due to software version updates and variations in user environments, we cannot guarantee that every user will be able to successfully set up the environment. However, the one resource we can provide is a complete system image. If you encounter environment-related issues that you are unable to resolve on your own, please use the factory image we provide to follow the tutorials.
